Melbourne Zoo has revealed their reinvigorated food precinct, lovingly redesigned by Red Design Group, local Artist Daisylegs, and resident Asian Elephant Bang Su.

Melbourne Zoo came to Red after identifying issues within one of their food precincts, which experienced queuing congestion and an outdated design.

Red Design Group used an adjacent planning approach to create efficiencies for staff and customers. The existing building was extended with new entry and exit points, as well as additional navigational signage.

The team at Red created a bold, urban solution which combines timber, black metal, and stone in the inviting space.

Red welcomed renowned local Artist Daisylegs to the design team, where she created several playful murals both on the Cafe’s external fencing, and the tiled wall behind the service desk, providing a fresh burst of colour.

Resident Asian Elephant of Melbourne Zoo Bang Su demonstrated his creative flair after personally contributing to the design. Bang Su passionately painted the Café umbrellas, which look fabulous and reflect the Cafe’s colour palette.
