Red Design Group has again had the opportunity to work closely with the Sutherland District Trade Union Club on their fourth project, reinvigorating the heart of the club with the creation of The Willow Café lounge and grill. Like the recently completed entry foyer, gaming floor and Serendip Asian Restaurant, the new café extends the professional hospitality experience available for the clubs members and visitors alike.

The brief sought to provide a large dining environment inclusive of an entry lounge, central bar, café display, kids play area and new toilet facilities, all supported by a large commercial display kitchen.

“Concealed up lighting was the key to ensuring the overall experience was inviting and relaxing as the existing slab heights were less than you would hope for when creating a quality hospitality environment”, Red Design Group’s Senior Designer Matthew Tremigliozzi explained.

Bold carpet patterns complement the laser cut ceiling fretwork that conceals the led up-lighting. Leather upholstered banquet seating backed with tall steel room dividers create intimacy and help zone the seating areas. Walnut finished joinery line the perimeter walls topped with plush upholstery fabric panels providing a visual appealing backdrop to this large yet private eating environment.

The activity of the kitchen is now an integrated aspect of the patron experience viewed over large expanses of timber paneling  through clear glazing. Red Design Group worked closely with the operations team at Tradies designing an efficient kitchen layout that was then built by Mansfield Constructions and Bendex Stainless Steel.

Chefs can be seen actively grilling stakes and plating up delicious meals for the waiting staff to collect and deliver to guests. The more discrete operations such as food preparation, catering and wash-up are concealed behind strategically located walls.

Sightlines were carefully considered to make the café easy for patrons to navigate. “The centrally located café display and bar act as an orientation zone for the entire area that slowly allow glimpses of other interesting features including the wine display wall, exposed kitchen and Max’s World Kids Club,” says Matthew Tremigliozzi.

The cleverly composed layout caters for a variety of seating and dining experiences while and sound absorbent materials ensure the experience is enjoyed by all who visit.
